Book Summary:

ou don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone…

Police academy cadet Charlie Burns can’t believe his luck when the gorgeous blonde he meets in a bar murmurs those magic words: “Nothing serious, ’kay?” Mind-blowing, no-strings sex with Ever Carmichael—it’s the holy grail of hookups for a guy who’s too busy following in his law enforcement family’s footsteps to think about getting serious. Charlie’s all about casual…that is, until Ever calls it quits and his world tilts on its axis.

Ever knows that when you control the relationship game, you can’t get played. But for the first time, she wants more than short-term satisfaction. Step one: end her fling with commitment-phobic Charlie. Step two: sacrifice herself to the ruthless NYC dating scene. Yet everywhere she turns, there’s Charlie, being his ridiculously charming self. No online match or blind date compares to the criminally hot cop-in-training, but they’re over. Aren’t they?

If love is a four-letter-word, why does the idea of Ever seeing someone else tie Charlie up in knots?  Now he’s desperate to win her back…and a little date sabotage never hurt anyone, right?

Book Review:

Hot and Sexy is the best way to describe this book. I totally fell in love with Charlie and Ever. They are two individuals who don’t do relationships but find themselves wanting to spend more time together.  Things progress and one of them realizes that they want something deeper and it forces the other one to reexamine things as well.

What I like about this book is that we get alternating views between both of our characters. This is nice because a lot of times we get the view point of the female character. I like how Charlie and Ever meet one another. Both of them describe the other as someone who is handsome, beautiful and both Charlie and Ever are not looking for anything serious. So things get hot and heavy right from the start of this book. Plus we get some background on both of our main characters. They both have goals in life and feel like sometimes that relationships are dangerous. You can get hurt. So they are right up front with one another. They like that about one another.

There no strings attached starts off great for the two of them, but they start to spend more time with each other when this starts to feel like enjoyment and maybe more. Things are going great in their careers too. Charlie is a police cadet at the police academy and is training hard. Plus he can’t stop thinking about Ever at times. So this is becoming more for him than he thinks. Ever is starting her own business with her roommate Nina. So they are pretty self sufficent.

Ever’s own mother and upbringing is one that is different from what most people learn growing up. Her mother says to never depend on a man. Never commit to a man because they will leave you and not to have long term relationships. They don’t work out. Yet Ever gets a disturbing phone call from her mother and it makes Ever really rethink things about relationships and what she really wants out of life. Her mother wants her to seriously think about a serious relationship and not these one night stands or an arrangement like the ones that she has had. It’s not worth it.

Yet things happen, that draw both Ever and Charlie back together despite them not being in the same kind of relationship they were in before. They agree to be friends, but Charlie has a plan to win back Ever. So things happen that neither of them expect. Also Nina has some issues of her own with a boyfriend that gets rather heated and Charlie helps out in a way that no one expects. Also we learn what makes Charlie and Ever tick in a deeper way than we first thought. I really love them both.
The evolution of both Charlie and Ever as characters and when they are together is great for the book. Plus they almost lose it because of something that one of them does, to make them see that they are right for one another. Ever’s mother gives her a piece of advice and that really makes things much clearer for her in a lot of ways. They do end up back together and realize that things are much more interesting together rather than apart. I thought the romance was very solid in this book and a great start for this series. Sometimes the person you need in your life is the person you least expect.

This was a great read. Had two very sexy individuals. I loved this book so very much. Looking ahead to see what happens in the next book with the next two characters.

Blog Tour: Haven by Mary Lindsey Book Review

Title: Haven
Author: Mary Lindsey
Genre: Young Adult Paranormal

Book Summary:

"We all hold a beast inside. The only difference is what form it takes when freed."

Rain Ryland has never belonged anywhere, He’s used to people judging him for his rough background, his intimidating size, and now, his orphan status. He’s always been on the outside, looking in, and he’s fine with that. Until he moves to New Wurzburg and meets Friederike Burkhart.

Freddie isn’t like normal teen girls, though. And someone wants her dead for it. Freddie warns he’d better stay far away if he wants to stay alive, but Rain’s never been good at running from trouble. For the first time, Rain has something worth fighting for, worth living for. Worth dying for.

Book Review:

A wonderful fun book that had me absorbed from start to finish.  I totally loved the main characters of Rain and Friederike aka Freddie.  There is something that these two characters can’t fight against, destiny.

One of the things is that we get Rain is the kind of teenager that always finds himself in trouble. So of course he gets into big time trouble and then the juvenile court judge decides to send him to New Wurzburg to live with his aunt. Rain never knew that he had an Aunt. So when his Aunt comes to pick him up, she is a squad car. His aunt is a cop. This makes him a little bit uneasy. His Aunt Ruby is definitely someone who comes to help him.

When he goes to his first day at his new high school, he meets Friederike Burkhart and her cousins. People are telling him to stay away from them. They are trouble. Trouble always seems to find him. He is immediately attracted to Freddie. So of course things don’t go as planned. We learn that Freddie and her family are not what you would call normal. Freddie says no to him and things go a little bit weird, but he is not going to let Freddie’s cousin’s intimidate him or bully him. So things evolve from there and they go on a date.

Also Rain is trying to stay out of trouble, so he decides to get an after school job and overhears something that he doesn’t understand. Yet, he gets the job at the Hardware Store in town. This town is interesting and weird it seems. Things happen during the date between him and Freddie. Rain sees Freddie transform into a wolf and then sees other weird things as well that he shouldn’t have. Freddie has broken the rules just by dating him or being with. Plus he saw things that outsiders do not see.

We get a big time history about the wolves, and what types there are. There are two and then there’s a third kind, which we find out about later. A lot of the people and power players have some kind of authority in the community as well. Also we learn that Freddie will be the next Alpha of the pack. So this puts a lot of pressure on her to play by the rules until things happen. Then something happens to Rain. They give him something because we learn that his father was actually part of the pack. So they give him something to make him one of them and it actually works despite Freddie not wanting this to happen.

The romance between Rain and Freddie is very solid because they know they are attracted to one another. Love the romance. They fight, argue, plan and discuss things. Not to mention things get very intense at times. Romance grows and becomes more solid. They realize that they need each other if they are too survive and make sure the pack endures.

Twists and turns were superb. Love how many weird and surprises were thrown at both Rain and Freddie. Plus Freddie finally stepped up in a way that no one expected. Also Rain learned what he really was capable of. He almost died as well, and found the strength to endure.  The way this book ended was terrific and wonderfully refreshing.

I really enjoyed the characters in this book.

Book Review: Wonderwoman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo

Title: Wonder Woman: Warbringer
Author: Leigh Bardugo
Series: DC Icons #1
Genre: Young Adult, Superheroes
Publisher: Random House for Kids
Pub Date: August 27, 2017
Pages: 376
My Copy: Hardcover That was in my Too be Read Pile

Book Summary:

Daughter of immortals.

Princess Diana longs to prove herself to her legendary warrior sisters. But when the opportunity finally comes, she throws away her chance at glory and breaks Amazon law—risking exile—to save a mortal. Diana will soon learn that she has rescued no ordinary girl, and that with this single brave act, she may have doomed the world.

Daughter of death.

Alia Keralis just wanted to escape her overprotective brother with a semester at sea. She doesn’t know she is being hunted by people who think her very existence could spark a world war. When a bomb detonates aboard her ship, Alia is rescued by a mysterious girl of extraordinary strength and forced to confront a horrible truth: Alia is a Warbringer—a direct descendant of the infamous Helen of Troy, fated to bring about an age of bloodshed and misery.

Together.

Two girls will face an army of enemies—mortal and divine—determined to either destroy or possess the Warbringer. Tested beyond the bounds of their abilities, Diana and Alia must find a way to unleash hidden strengths and forge an unlikely alliance. Because if they have any hope of saving both their worlds, they will have to stand side by side against the tide of war.

Book Review:

This was a great action packed adventure. I love that this book had some great characters. Diana and Alia are two young women who find themselves in a situation that they never imagined being in. I like how this book takes place in several locations, modern day New York included.  Diana and Alia are from different worlds and yet they find themselves together in an adventure.

What I like about this book is that we start off in Diana’s home. Diana is looking to prove herself in a race. Diana has overheard certain things that her mother has said to other amazons who have proven themselves in battle. She also has learned things about herself and this makes her want to prove herself more to make her mother proud, who is the Queen of the Amazons.

One of the things that happens is that there is a race. Diana is so confident that she will win this race because she has been practicing and working hard at preparing for it. Plus she has a strategy. What Diana doesn’t count on is that someone unexpected comes onto the island and it will make her life much more interesting and complex. Diana sees a ship on the beach and decides to investigate and finds a young woman about the same age as her washed up on the beach. What happens next is something else entirely unexpected. She helps this young woman whose name is Alia and hides her in a cave.

We learn that Alia somehow has landed on this island and was vacationing in Greece and got to this island which she shouldn’t have. Diana has a plan to get this young woman off the island. We learn from the Oracle that Alia has already bought chaos and disruption to Diana’s home. Alia is a war bringer. A War Bringer is someone whose destiny is to bring War and much chaos. So of course, Diana and Alia end up back in New York. New York is nothing like Diana ever imagined. It’s very big and massive. Of course things are run a little bit different in Alia’a home.

Nothing is ever easy for Diana and Alia as they are trying to make their way through New York and other places. I like how Alia’s brother plays a major role in this book.  Jason is someone who comes off as very confident. A little overprotective of his sister, but yet things happen with Alia’s brother in a way that no one can expect. There are other characters that we get to know like Theo and Nim, who you come to love just as much as our main two or three, if you count Jason. Jason is definitely not what you expect.

Everyone goes through a series of crazy events on the way back to Greece. Also Diana wants to get back home. She is in the world of men and there are crazy events and things that get thrown at them, that no one could have predicted or seen coming. I also love how all the characters have things happen to them and that they all have conflicts and arguments about how to precede and what plan should they follow and then we get a twist that no one could have predicted.

Jason decides to reveal that he has been the one who should have been given the Warbringer blood. He is the one who wants to rule the world and needs his sister to do that. Things happen. A battle happens between Diana and Jason. Diana decides not to go home and helps her friend defeat her brother and save Alia’s life. It shows that Diana is strong and a hero. Plus she returns home and is now a warrior according to the Oracle.

I really enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would.
