Book Summary:

Mazie Maguire doesn’t need some lousy awards panel to tell her what she already knows: Ben Labeck—the chiseled, 6'3" photojournalist and hockey player who drives her wild—is the Sexiest Man Alive. And she especially doesn’t need the rest of the world to know it, too. Watching every last woman in the Milwaukee metro area throw themselves at the man who shares Mazie’s bed is more than any respectable single lady should bear.

So when Ben has the nerve to “forget” to call for a week, Mazie decides to call it off for good. But as she jumps back into the dating game, Mazie catches the attention of some real bad boys: The Skulls. When the motorcycle gang kidnaps Mazie in a case of mistaken identity, she suddenly sees Ben’s behavior in a whole new light. She’d do anything to wake up in Ben’s surprisingly tender arms one more time—so long as the Sexiest Man Alive doesn’t go and get himself killed trying to save her.

Book Review:

A clever, smart, funny romance that is a perfect for a summer read. I really found that Mazie was the kind of heroine that you immediately identify with in a lot of ways. Ben Labeck is a guy who seems to have it all, except the girl he wants the most, Mazie.

Mazie and Ben are a couple that have different views on things. Ben thinks he is doing a good thing by taking Mazie out on dates, but they are not romantic because he has a coupon, which he thinks makes him frugal. Mazie doesn’t think this is romantic, but rather kind of cheap. I also like that when Ben gets picked to be The Sexiest Man Alive on a news channel, Ben doesn’t like his new found celebrity, neither does Mazie. Mazie fears that Ben’s head is going to grow. Ben is rather not fond of this. This creates a lot of tension between them.

Also Mazie is having a hard time in life. She gets fired from her job because she has a few infractions on her job, plus she saves someone from dying, one of the clients, yet this puts her in a bad mood. Mazie also has a criminal record, because of something that happened in her past. Plus she goes to some of her friends for advice about what she should do. She follows her friend’s advice and it leads to some mighty interesting things.

Plus then one of Mazie’s old friends, Johnny Hoolihan who is now a cop, comes back into her life. He is worried about a young woman named Shayla who has gotten mixed up with some criminals, The Skulls. Lets just say that things happen when the Skulls and Johnny and Mazie are trying to locate the young woman. This is where things get messy. Nothing goes as plan. Everything gets screwed up. Of course, Ben blames Johnny and the two almost come to blows. It shows that Ben really does care about Mazie. Mazie thinks he is being pig-headed. I kind of think that is one of the things that shows Ben cares deeply about this woman.

Then there are some really great moments in the book that I really enjoyed reading. I really like the Roller Derby scenes. I thought that it was great to see Ben taking care of Mazie after the game where she got pretty roughed up by the others. It was rather sweet to see Ben take care of her knee. This scene becomes much more intense in a way as their chemistry just seems to explode. Of course they get interrupted in not a good way.

The last part of this book was so good and unexpected in way. I like when sometimes a character has something so surprising to happen. Yet when Shayla shows up at Mazie’s place, Shayla ends up placing both of their lives in danger. Ben is worried when he shows up and there is blood and furniture thrown all over the place. What happens is Ben has to call on Mazie’s friends to help him find her. Yet he does get the help.

As Ben and Mazie’s friends are trying to rescue them, both Mazie and Ben realize how much they love her and how pigheaded they both have been. I really like these scenes where both Mazie and Ben declare their love for one another. It was such a sweet and tender moment between these two characters. I felt like it both Mazie and Ben’s walls were finally coming down & both were being honest with one another.
