Book Summary:

Battle is joined as British and American paranormal investigators clash in an exciting gaslamp fantasy.
Leanna Renee Hieber's gaslamp fantasy series continues and the action ramps up in Eterna and Omega.

In New York City, fearing the dangers of the Eterna Compound--supposedly the key to immortality--Clara Templeton buries information vital to its creation. The ghost of her clandestine lover is desperate to tell her she is wrong, but though she is a clairvoyant, she cannot hear him.

In London, Harold Spire plans to send his team of assassins, magicians, mediums, and other rogue talents to New York City, in an attempt to obtain Eterna for Her Royal Majesty, Queen Victoria. He stays behind to help Scotland Yard track down a network of body snatchers and occultists, but he'll miss his second-in-command, Rose Everhart, whose gentle exterior masks a steel spine.

Rose's skepticism about the supernatural has been shattered since she joined Spire's Omega Branch. Meeting Clara is like looking into a strange mirror: both women are orphans, each is concealing a paranormal ability, and each has a powerful and attractive guardian who has secrets of his own.

The hidden occult power that menaces both England and America continues to grow. Far from being dangerous, Eterna may hold the key to humanity's salvation.

Book Review:

An awesome follow up to the Eterna Files. I totally found myself loving this book from start to finish. I really like that the two groups, the New York and the one in London work together to try to stop something dangerous and deadly from happening.

One of the things that I like is that we learn Louis is now a ghost and his new state leaves things a lot more complicated. I like how Louis tries to reach out to Clara using other people and mediums to contact her. He is trying to tell her there are dangerous things and people trying to use Eterna and the compounds in it for something evil. I like how the spirits are definitely trying to help our heroes and do things in the spirit world.

Clara Templeton realizes that she will need all her strength to do what is necessary to stop the evil that is coming. She thought that her group defeated, but she realizes that nothing is ever as it appears to be. I really like how Clara learns from Louis that there is a greater evil out there. We also learn what we thought we knew about the Dark Forces threatening to consume things both in America and England is growing more powerful and that they will need help.

I also love how in England that Rose and Harold Spire are also realizing that they need help as well and that someone has tried to set the two groups of Eterna against one another. Harold decides to send Rose to America to help the other group.  Spire has a lot of confidence in Rose’s abilities and she really respects and values his opinion. There are things that both teams learn and that they need to exchange information about what is going on with the Eterna project and learn that sometimes the past show up when least expected.

One of the things that I love about this book is the flavor of the way New York is presented. New York and England in many ways add a dimension to this book even more so. As some of the places in New York are very familiar with me as certain streets are mentioned (RN: like Pearl Street, since being a New Yorker, that I live near it). Also there are things that happen in buildings that I’m familiar with and how things were very different in the time period. I really enjoyed the touches of Old New York a lot. It’s one of my favorite things about this series.

Also I like that certain characters from the authors other series make appearances like Lord Denbury (Magic Most Foul Series) and Moriel (the villain) are super important  to this story. Then we get a small appearance by the guard (Strangely Beautiful Series) which is really special and important as they do something to help our heroes without our heroes realizing it.

This book took some wonderful twists and turns that I didn’t expect. Plus both Clara, Rose, and Spire really grew as characters in this book. Plus they used their abilities in very unusual ways. I thought the way that their abilities evolve and how all three of them use them in very inventive ways and in ways you don’t expect. I especially like how Spire uses his ability to convince both Congress in America and Parliament in England to pass laws and help ensure innocent peoples safety from this evil that will spread unless they stop the evil.

The fact that Moriel uses people as weapons to get what he needs. Yet what he does is so surprising and deadly. There are things that happen and some characters make sacrifices and decisions that you never see coming. I also like how both of the Eterna teams work together to stop Moriel and also the appearances of other people and characters from the other series seem to play a vital role in stopping the evil and ghosts wrecking major havoc in a way that you can forsee.

Overall, one of my favorite books of the year.
