Book Summary:
As Mac, Barrons, Ryodan, and Jada struggle to restore control, enemies become allies, right and wrong cease to exist, and the lines between life and death, lust and love, disappear completely.
Black holes loom menacingly over Dublin, threatening to destroy the Earth. Yet the greatest danger is the one MacKayla Lane has unleashed from within: the Sinsar Dubh—a sentient book of unthinkable evil—has possessed her body and will stop at nothing in its insatiable quest for power.
The fate of Man and Fae rests on destroying the book and recovering the long-lost Song of Making, the sole magic that can repair the fragile fabric of the Earth. But to achieve these aims, sidhe-seers, the Nine, Seelie, and Unseelie must form unlikely alliances and make heart-wrenching choices. For Barrons and Jada, this means finding the Seelie Queen who alone can wield the mysterious song, negotiating with a lethal Unseelie prince hell-bent on ruling the Fae courts, and figuring out how to destroy the Sinsar Dubh while keeping Mac alive.
This time, there’s no gain without sacrifice, no pursuit without risk, no victory without irrevocable loss. In the battle for Mac’s soul, every decision exacts a tremendous price.
Book Review:
This series gets better and better. I really found myself on the edge of my seat from start to finish in this book. All the characters find themselves facing things they never thought they would have to deal with. Plus we deal with other things changing like possibly that Earth itself is dying because of things that they never saw in the backgrounds and black holes.
We were left with Mac being possed by the Sinsar Dubh and having the other characters to deal with the consequences of this happening. It’s not very good. Now we have to deal with a Mac that’s more deadly and not going to let her go very easily. Then there are other characters who have some major issues as well. The book is really bad while in Mac’s body. Jerricho, Ryodan, and Jada/Dani all have their own theories and what they should do. Jada/Dani and Jerricho want to try to save Mac, but Ryodan thinks that they should kill Mac while the book inhabits her body. What none of them realize is that Mac is trying to fight the book.
Jerricho offers the book the chance to take possession of his body, but the Sinsar Dubh declines. He doesn’t trust things. Plus Jada/Dani is also talking to Cruce about things. Then we get to meet the Queen of the Fairies in this book as well. She has a big part to play in this book. Things happened that you don’t expect in one way. Plus we get a lot more background on Shazam as well. Every character tends to do things.
While possessed by the book Mac does something really bad. This makes things really bad for her later on in the story. You realized this is something that the Fat do. Eating human beings is something that really didn’t sit well for me. This didn’t make things better for Mac or Jo (who unfortunately was eaten). When they do finally manage to get Mac Free of the book, they find out other things, that Cruce for one has deceived them. Second thing they learn is that the earth only has a few days or months left. We also learn some other terrible things are happening as well.
Other characters priorities change and they are going thru changes. We learn that Jayne is going to become Fae as well. Christian is changing as well. Dancer has a terrible form of cancer and that changes things for the Jada/Dani character as well. It also helps the character I think be better in a lot more ways. We get to see a real growth in the compassion department from her. It also reminds of us why we fell in love with both of these characters and a romance that Ryodan lets happen in many ways. Not to mention the Fee Queen gives up her life but not before transferring her powers and abilities to Mac. We also learn that Mac might be the only one who can stop the Earth from dying.
There were so many great moments in this book, plus revelations. I thought that so much great gowth. We also learn that Shazam is a Hell Cat and they literally eat thru people and civilizations. Shazam is an interesting character himself. He needs to eat to survive. So they kind of take him back to the Earth, but Jada/Dani needs to control him and teach him not to do certain things. Also things happen that break your heart in this book.
I thought all the characters had great shining romances, heartbreaking losses and thru it all these characters came together in such wonderful ways. This book kind of left me feeling satisfied in a lot of ways. Plus it closed a lot of storylines, not to mention left you feeling hopeful for the future. Not to mention, it kind of open the possibility of having another book since they gave us a new shadow court.
Excellent book all around.
