Book Summary:

Irony 101—The Spider herself snared in someone else’s web…

Another week, another few clues trickling in about the Circle, the mysterious group that supposedly runs the city’s underworld. Gathering intel on my hidden enemies is a painstaking process, but a more immediate mystery has popped up on my radar: a missing girl.

My search for the girl begins on the mean streets of Ashland, but with all the killers and crooks in this city, I’m not holding out much hope that she’s still alive.

A series of clues leads me down an increasingly dark, dangerous path, and I realize that the missing girl is really just the first thread in this web of evil. As an assassin, I’m used to facing down the worst of the worst, but nothing prepares me for this new, terrifying enemy—one who strikes from the shadows and is determined to make me the next victim.

Book Review:

A really good development in this book series. I like how Gin learns more about the Circle and what is going on. I totally like how Gin has to deal with something that she never expects. What happens is that one of her business associates Jade has a problem. Jade’s sister has gone missing. So of course this leads to some other things happening.

We learn that Jade’s sister has gone missing. Jade is really worried about her sister. She really doesn’t want to go to the police, but decides to go to Gin for help. Gin is also investigating one of the Circle members, Damian Rivera who is quite a piece of work. We also learn that Tucker is a big part of things. There are things that need to be fixed according to what Tucker says to Rivera. Everything has a great importance to Gin of what she finds out.

Then Bria and Xander tell Gin some disturbing news, it looks like there is a serial killer killing young women who look a lot like Jade’s sister. This news disturbs Gin as one of the bodies was dumped in the alleyway behind the Pork Pit. I think that this makes Gin more determined to find this serial killer before Jade’s sister or any other young woman will die. She finds out that there are a lot of other people who want to hurt people.

We learn that members of the Circle are very secretive. We also learn through Gin’s nightmares or reprised memories that Tucker and her mother were an item, well Tucker wanted Gin’s mother, not the other way around at least that’s what Gin thinks. Gin has to use some unconventional methods to find Elisa, Jade’s sister. She learns that this investigation leads back to Damian Rivera or so Gin mistakenly believes. We find out that Damian is not behind, but it’s someone close to him, Bruce Porter who happens to be a dwarf and he’s very evil indeed.

The craziness that happens between Gin and Bruce is really interesting as we learn that Bruce Porter is the serial killer and that his reason for killing these young women is because of the rejection of Maria Riveria, Damian Rivera’s mother. A woman who didn’t want him, but saw him as a friend and nothing more. This rejection has him dressing up young women to suit his fantasy. Gin really tells him off.

We also get a huge surprise at the end of this book with what Tucker tells Gin. He tells her not to mess with the Circle’s leader as they are far more dangerous than any foe she has ever faced. There are things that he has come to admire about Gin. He also tells her that Gin reminds him of her mother in a lot of ways. He gives Gin a heads up and tells her to be careful. She decides to treasure what she has.

I think the next few books are going to be interesting until she gets to the final member of the Circle. I totally enjoyed this book a lot.
